If you’re considering braces as an adult, you are not alone! We meet so many adults who would love to have straighter teeth and a more confident smile but aren’t yet fully convinced about braces. Thoughts like, “But I’m not a teenager anymore,” and, “I have a job and a social life, I can’t wear braces,” are things we hear all the time. That’s why we’ve put together 5 of the most common concerns about adult braces and explain why they are not as scary as you think!
We totally get it. You have a big presentation at work and several important client meetings lined up – you couldn’t imagine trying to do all of that with visible metal braces. How unprofessional would that look! These are thoughts that every adult goes through when trying to weigh up the pros and cons of braces, but what if we told you that braces didn’t have to be noticeable at all? Thanks to modern orthodontics, you can get highly discreet braces systems that are barely, if not completely invisible. Popular options such as the Six-month smile, Cfast braces, Incognito lingual, In-ovation and Invisalign are all highly discreet braces systems which use either tooth-coloured brackets or entirely clear/invisible aligners. This allows you to get perfectly straight and beautiful teeth, without anyone realising you are wearing braces at all!
You really want to straighten your smile…but you’ve also heard that getting braces can give you a permanent lisp and that’s not ideal when your job requires face to face interaction or talking on the phone. Of course, braces can feel a little strange when they’re first fitted, and they often take some getting used to, but this is completely temporary and any difficulty with speech lasts a few days at most. Certainly nothing permanent! After a few days, your tongue, lips and gums will have all adapted to your new braces, and your speech will go right back to normal!
So, you’ve been seriously thinking about braces, but there never seems to be a good time to get them. There’s always a big social event coming up…a night out with friends, a date, a best friend’s wedding, none of which you fancy wearing braces at! But what if we told you that braces didn’t have to affect your social life? Most braces are now super discreet or even invisible, so you don’t need to worry about trying to hide them when talking to others or having your photo taken. Some braces, such as Invisalign, are even completely removable which is perfect if you’re going out for food with friends or on a date. Plus, braces are always going to be a temporary thing and think how confident you’ll feel at your social events once you’ve had them off!
This is one we hear a lot. Most people think that braces are just for teenagers which could not be further from the truth! We get adults coming to us for orthodontic treatment all the time, either because their smile wasn’t corrected when they were younger or because their teeth have shifted back out of place. In fact, it is becoming increasingly popular for adults to get braces later in life, especially now that we are more invested in the appearance of our smiles. And, with loads of celebrities such as Gwen Stefani, Katherine Heigl and Nicholas Cage embracing adult braces, we don’t see why you shouldn’t embrace them too!
It’s true, braces aren’t free for adults on the NHS, so they are going to be a little pricier but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t affordable! Many practices offer 0% interest financing options, to help spread the cost of your treatment and make it much more affordable. This enables you to invest in your smile and oral health without putting you out of pocket. At Ten Orthodontics, we have various pricing and finance plans to suit every situation, making orthodontic treatment more affordable for everyone.
